Identify and report children and young people at risk
This unit is an approved child protection training course required by government protocol and applies to workers in a range of job roles providing services to children and young people in childcare, education, community services and health contexts.
It is designed to build awareness and provide the education required to identify, respond, support and protect children and young people who are at risk of harm. It provides participants with an awareness of child abuse and neglect including the indicators of the different types and dynamics of abuse as they may apply to age, gender, disability, culture and sexuality.
Completing this course, students will understand the wider context of child protection within the framework of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, Federal and state/territory legal requirements as well as the ethical considerations and duty of care responsibilities.
You have a maximum of (6) six months to complete the unit.

Course Information
Important information prior to enrolment

Online with an in-person face to face assessment at the location specified at the time of the booking or in the workplace in a suitable training area.

Participants must have significant communication skills, be able to read and understand forms and to make accurate reports and the ability to record details of children and young people at risk and to make reports using handwritten skills and computer skills.
You have a maximum of 6 months to complete this unit
Students must have access to a computer, smart phone, tablet or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online studies and practical assessment.
Students are required to upload two (2) videos of themselves participating in simulated scenarios to complete the practical assessment component

Access to a smart phone, computer and a reliable internet connection
To complete the practical assessment (online), you will require the resources and equipment to physically complete a practical task following clear instructions and assessment guidelines. A student would typically video themselves using their smart phone (or be recorded by a second person) undertaking the two (2) practical assessment tasks and upload the two (2) videos. Videos must be of good quality and clearly demonstrate the tasks being undertaken. A qualified assessor will view the video recordings against the benchmark criteria and mark the uploaded practical assessment videos. All assessment criteria must be met to achieve competency.

This course gives you the knowledge and confidence to recognise when a child or young person may be at risk— and to take the right action in line with legal and ethical obligations. It’s practical, straightforward training that helps you understand what to look for, what to do, and how to respond responsibly.
You’ll learn to identify indicators of abuse and neglect, understand how risk factors can present differently across age, gender, disability, culture, and sexuality, and how to follow reporting requirements with accuracy and care.
The course also places child protection within a broader framework, including:

This unit can be completed online at your own pace, with up to six months to finish.
